Junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have unveiled a poignant sculpture titled “Cry of the Hour,” in memory of their colleague, the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered on the college premises. The bust, created by renowned artist Asit Sain, stands as a symbol of the victim’s anguish and horror. Placed on a pedestal in front of the PGB Gardens near the principal’s office, the installation serves as a reminder of the tragic event that has left the medical community in mourning.
“It is an emotional moment for us,” said a junior doctor. “She was our colleague, and we’ve been fighting for justice in her name. This sculpture ensures she will never be forgotten.”
As Durga Puja preparations take place in Kolkata, the WBJDF has intensified its calls for justice. A major rally, scheduled for Wednesday, coincides with Mahalaya, the start of the festival. The march will begin at College Square and culminate at Esplanade, where an assembly will gather to demand action.
A statement by the WBJDF criticized the government’s inaction, noting, “We have demanded the elimination of the politics of fear from every hospital and medical college in the state, but there has been no goodwill or inquiry into the healthcare syndicate. We want elected student councils, and we want justice.” “Let our protest continue for justice for Abhaya, for a fear-free healthcare system, and to eliminate the politics of fear,” added another junior doctor.
