Mangaluru police have launched an extensive search operation after businessman Mumthaz Ali went missing early Sunday morning. Ali, who is the brother of Janata Dal (Secular) MLC BM Farooq and former Congress MLA Mohiuddin Bava, was last seen leaving his house around 3 am. His vehicle, found abandoned near the Kulur Bridge at 5 am, raised alarms and triggered a swift police response.
According to Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal, the car had noticeable signs of damage, hinting at a possible accident. The police were alerted by Ali's daughter, who reported her father's absence when he did not return home. Investigators are now piecing together his movements and searching for any additional clues that could help locate him.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Coast Guard were immediately called in to assist with the search, scouring the river beneath the bridge for any signs that Ali may have jumped or fallen. "We are actively searching the area to determine if he is in the river or if other circumstances are involved," Commissioner Agrawal stated.
As the investigation continues, authorities are also interviewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace Ali's last known steps. The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the search efforts.
