Plane with Himachal Deputy CM onboard makes emergency landing in Shimla
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the verge of making history by winning the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 for the third consecutive term. According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, the BJP is projected to secure approximately 50 out of the 90 assembly seats, thus achieving a clear majority. This marks a significant turnaround from the 2019 Assembly elections when the BJP managed only 40 seats and fell short of the majority mark.
In contrast, the Congress party is expected to win around 36 seats. Notable victories include wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who clinched the Julana seat, and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who won the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat. Current trends indicate that the BJP is leading on 50 seats, while Congress is ahead on 34 seats.
The main contenders in this election are the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). While the BJP aims to achieve a hat-trick in Haryana, the Congress is eager to break its decade-long drought and reclaim power in the state.
Interestingly, exit polls had initially predicted a clean sweep for the Congress, estimating that the party could win between 50 to 58 seats. In stark contrast, the BJP was projected to secure only 20 to 28 seats. A party needs 46 seats to form a government in Haryana, making the current trends even more significant as the counting of votes is set to commence at 8 am.
