More than 3.5 crore pilgrims take holy bath during Amrit Snan at Mahakumbh
A rail blockade occurred at Sonarpur station in South Bangalore on Wednesday morning, prompted by the sudden cancellation of local trains. This protest significantly disrupted services on the Sealdah South branch for nearly two hours, affecting many commuters and festival-goers.
The chaos began when the 8:42 AM local train from Sonarpur was unexpectedly canceled without any prior notice. Frustrated passengers, many of whom were rushing to work or preparing for festive activities, gathered at the station, leading to the blockade. This action halted all train services to key destinations such as Baruipur, Diamond Harbour, Kakdwip, Namkhana, and Lakshmikantpur.
Railway sources reported that services gradually resumed around 10:00 AM. However, they cautioned that it could take additional time for the system to return to normal. During this period, several local trains were stranded at various stations, and overcrowded trains saw passengers clinging on as they attempted to reach their destinations.
