WPL: RCB chase down highest ever total, beat GG by 6 wickets
On Friday evening, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express (Train No. 12578) collided with a stationary goods train near Kavaraipettai in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district. The incident occurred at around 8:30 PM when the express train, en route from Mysuru to Darbhanga, entered a loop line and crashed into the goods train. Six coaches of the express train derailed, and two of the air-conditioned coaches caught fire.
At least 10 passengers have been reported injured and have been rushed to nearby hospitals. Rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been dispatched to the site, along with ambulances. Firefighters are working to extinguish the flames, and rescue efforts to evacuate passengers from the affected coaches are ongoing.
According to preliminary reports, the crew of the express train experienced a sudden jerk, leading the train into the wrong track where the goods train was stationed. Thiruvallur District Collector T Prabhushankar confirmed that emergency services were promptly mobilized to handle the situation.
Tamil Nadu Minister Naser, IG North Zone Asra Garg, and other senior officials are at the scene to oversee the rescue operations. Chief Minister MK Stalin has instructed hospitals in Chennai to remain on high alert, preparing to receive any critically injured passengers. Indian Railways has launched an investigation into the technical failure that caused the collision.
