The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken two doctors, Debashish Som, and Sujata Ghosh, into custody for their alleged involvement in a financial corruption case linked to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. According to CBI sources, both doctors have been implicated in a series of financial scams. The CBI had earlier requested Swasthya Bhawan, the state's health department, to take action against these doctors. In response, Swasthya Bhawan has communicated with the CBI, seeking details of the corruption charges.
The corruption case has been gaining attention, especially after the arrests of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandeep Ghosh and another key figure, Ashish Pandey, by the CBI. Now, the agency's investigation has expanded to include Debashish Som and Sujata Ghosh. Both doctors have been on the radar for their alleged roles in financial mismanagement, and this development has triggered further scrutiny from both state and central authorities.
Swasthya Bhawan has formally asked the CBI to specify the nature of the corruption allegations against the two doctors. The state health department's involvement has now become more prominent, as the matter has also been referenced in an affidavit submitted by the state government in the Supreme Court.
Debashish Som, whose involvement in the corruption case has been under discussion for some time, was also previously questioned over his participation in seminars linked to suspicious activities. His name has repeatedly surfaced in the corruption case, including in the controversial Abhaya case. On the other hand, Sujata Ghosh's name came to light during a Supreme Court hearing on September 30, where junior doctors' legal representatives presented evidence implicating her.
