North Kolkata filtered water supply to be disrupted on Dec 16-17 due to Tallah Pump repairs
The Public Works Department (PWD) has informed the Chief Secretary that 96% of the work for installing CCTV cameras in all government hospitals across the state has been completed. The initiative, which aims to enhance the security infrastructure of hospitals, is now in its final phase, with the remaining installations expected to be finished within the next two weeks. In addition to the CCTV cameras, the PWD also confirmed that the work on washrooms and changing rooms is in its concluding stages.
This update comes in the wake of heightened security concerns, particularly following ongoing protests and strikes by junior doctors. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, acting on instructions from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, held a meeting with the principals of 28 hospitals at Navanna. The meeting, which also included the Health Secretary, Home Secretary, and the Director General of Police (DGP), discussed the effective utilization of the Rs 131 crore allocated for the security of hospitals.
The government has been actively working on strengthening the security infrastructure in hospitals to ensure both patients and staff feel safer. With the completion of the CCTV installations and improvements in hospital facilities such as washrooms and changing rooms, the state aims to establish a more secure environment in medical institutions.
Amid these developments, political tensions continue to rise as the junior doctors' hunger strike persists. Kunal Ghosh, a prominent Trinamool Congress leader, made a statement criticizing the doctors' claims that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not visit them during their hunger strike. Ghosh labeled their accusations as "completely dramatic" and suggested that the issue had been unnecessarily escalated.
