4 Kanwariyas killed, 11 injured after vehicle runs over pilgrims in Bihar

Four Kanwariyas were tragically killed, and 11 others sustained injuries after a vehicle ran over them in Bihar's Banka district on Friday night. The incident occurred as the group of devotees was en route to the Jast Gaur Nath Mahadev temple, carrying holy water (Gangajal) collected from Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district. The Kanwariyas were part of a larger pilgrimage, a significant annual event in Hindu culture, where devotees travel to sacred sites to offer prayers.

According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Avinash Kumar, the deceased individuals were identified at the scene, and their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the injured victims were transported to a local hospital, where they are receiving medical attention for various injuries sustained during the incident.

SDPO Bipin Bihari confirmed that police arrived promptly at the site of the accident. He stated that while there were initial law and order concerns due to the gathering of shocked and grieving onlookers, the situation was quickly brought under control. Law enforcement has increased their presence in the area to ensure safety and prevent any unrest.

The local administration has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle involved was traveling at a high speed, leading to the devastating impact. Authorities are examining traffic regulations and vehicle conditions at the time of the accident, aiming to hold responsible parties accountable.
