A day of joy turned into a day of unbearable sorrow for a family in Malda’s Magura area of Ratu, as three brothers who had gone to bathe in the Mahananda River never returned home. The tragic incident has left the family shattered and cast a shadow of grief over the entire neighborhood.
According to reports, the brothers—Aditya Chowdhury (13), Biswajit Chowdhury (12), and Satyajit Chowdhury (12)—were home on leave from their hostel. On Sunday afternoon, they went to bathe in the river near their home, unaware of the impending disaster that awaited them. The tragic sequence of events unfolded quickly as all three brothers drowned shortly after entering the river.
Eyewitnesses by the river were the first to notice the unfolding tragedy. Despite efforts by onlookers, some of whom dived into the water to try to save the boys, it was too late. As soon as the news reached local authorities, rescue operations began in earnest, and the boys were pulled out of the river.
After being rescued, they were rushed to the nearest hospital in hopes of saving them. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the medical team could not revive them. The doctors declared one of the boys lifeless upon arrival, and soon after, it became clear that none of the three brothers could be saved.
