More than 3.5 crore pilgrims take holy bath during Amrit Snan at Mahakumbh
Loknath Ghosh, a driver at Kalighat Police Station, has been arrested for allegedly harassing his wife, forcing her to undergo an abortion, and inciting her to commit suicide. A formal complaint against Ghosh was lodged at the Rabindra Nagar police station in Maheshtala by the family of his wife, Meena Das, who worked as a civic volunteer at the Metiabruz Police Station.
Tragically, Meena Das took her own life on Friday, prompting her family to file a complaint against Loknath, accusing him of continuous torture and pushing her towards this extreme step. The family also revealed that Meena had discovered Loknath was already married to another woman, which marked the beginning of her suffering.
According to the complaint, Meena was deceived into marrying Loknath, who hid the fact that he was already married. Upon discovering this, Meena confronted Loknath, which led to increased harassment and abuse. It has been alleged that Loknath forced her to undergo an abortion and subjected her to both mental and physical abuse, ultimately pushing her to commit suicide.
Since the complaint was lodged, Loknath had been absconding, but police successfully apprehended him yesterday. The case has now brought attention to issues of domestic abuse, harassment, and deceit within marital relationships, with authorities expected to carry out a thorough investigation.
