As Cyclone Dana approaches landfall on October 24-25, 2024, railway authorities have announced the cancellation of over 170 train services across the South Eastern and Eastern Railway zones. The move comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and railway infrastructure during the anticipated severe weather conditions.
The South Eastern Railways has canceled 151 trains, with several of these connecting major cities and hubs, including Secunderabad, Bhubaneswar, Chennai Central, and Howrah. Similarly, the Eastern Railways has also suspended 19 express trains, affecting long-distance travel across various key routes. The cancellations will impact both up and down trains across these regions.
This large-scale disruption comes as Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall along the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal. Train services in these cyclone-prone areas have been particularly affected, with services halted to avoid any potential damage to the railway infrastructure.
