A sub-assistant engineer of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Subhojit, is facing serious allegations of molesting a woman during an official inspection of her under-construction house in Ward 122. The incident took place on Thursday when Subhojit visited the property for a routine check. According to the homeowner, he inappropriately touched her under the pretense of inspecting the premises. Alarmed by the incident, the woman immediately informed nearby residents.
Outraged, the local residents detained Subhojit for nearly two hours, demanding swift action against him. Tensions ran high until the police arrived at the scene, intervening to rescue the engineer from the growing crowd. Although released from the standoff, Subhojit has remained tight-lipped and has yet to provide any public response to the accusations.
Subhojit is a member of the Left-backed Engineers and Allied Services Association, a prominent union within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. In response to the allegations, the association's secretary, Manas Sinha, acknowledged the gravity of the situation but cautioned against premature judgment. "We have received the complaint, but the truth needs to be verified. An internal review will be conducted to determine the validity of these claims," he said.
Ujjal Sarkar, the Director General of the Building Department of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, also expressed concern. "If the allegations are true, there will be strict and immediate disciplinary action. Misconduct by any municipal employee on duty will not be tolerated," Sarkar stated. He assured the public that a thorough investigation is already underway, with the authorities gathering evidence and questioning all parties involved.
