On Monday morning, a passenger named Shailendra Chowdhury, aged 45, fell from the moving Down Gangasagar Express at Burdwan Station. The incident occurred shortly after the train departed from platform number 5. Chowdhury, who hails from Raghuapur-Itahar village in Madhubani district, Bihar, was attempting to disembark when he lost his balance and fell between the train and the platform.
RPF officer Niva Kumari was alerted to the situation through CCTV surveillance footage. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, she immediately rushed to assist Chowdhury. Fellow RPF officer Yogesh Kumar also joined her in the rescue effort. Together, they acted quickly to reach Chowdhury and successfully pulled him to safety before the train could move further down the track.
Eyewitnesses reported that the officers’ quick response was critical in preventing more severe injuries. Chowdhury was treated for minor injuries at the station and did not require hospitalization. He had purchased a ticket for travel from Madhubani to Bandel and was thankful for the swift actions of the RPF personnel, which likely prevented a more serious outcome.
