CPM leader Tanmoy Bhattacharya faces a molestation complaint filed at Baranagar Police Station by a woman journalist who alleges misconduct during an interview. The incident reportedly took place during her recent visit to Bhattacharya for an interview, leading to the formal complaint. In response, Bhattacharya held a press conference today, categorically denying the allegations and describing them as “completely fabricated.”
At the press meet, Bhattacharya raised several questions regarding the complainant’s actions. He pointed out that the journalist was accompanied by a cameraman during the interview, yet no footage of the incident exists. “If the incident took place, why was the camera not turned on? It takes only a push of a button,” Bhattacharya stated, emphasizing that the cameraman could have either filmed or intervened if anything inappropriate had occurred.
Bhattacharya further questioned the timing and physical credibility of the complaint, stating that he weighs 83 kg while the complainant reportedly weighs around 40 kg. He suggested that any physical assault would have been immediately apparent and possibly left visible signs, disputing the likelihood of the allegations. Bhattacharya also noted that, rather than reporting the incident immediately, the complainant filed her complaint later, which he claims raises questions about its credibility.
The CPM leader concluded by suggesting that the allegations may be a tactic to distract from current issues, including ongoing protests at RG Kar Medical College, where Bhattacharya has been vocal. He stated that he is prepared to cooperate with any investigation and remains committed to clearing his name through proper legal processes.
