Central Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Ranchi on Saturday night to officially kick off the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) election campaign for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. The campaign's launch coincided with the unveiling of the party's manifesto at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Sunday. During his address, Shah reiterated the BJP's firm commitment to implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand, an initiative aimed at harmonizing personal laws across different religions, which he believes will ensure equality and social justice for all citizens, especially marginalized groups.
Shah addressed potential concerns raised by opponents regarding the impact of the UCC on the customs and traditions of Jharkhand's tribal communities. He reassured attendees that the implementation of the UCC would not infringe upon or diminish the cultural identity of the tribal populace. Shah stressed that the UCC would uphold the unique rights of tribal people while fostering an environment of equality among diverse communities in the state. He highlighted that a robust legal framework would protect women's rights and the welfare of children.
Financial aspects were prominently featured in Shah's speech, where he contrasted the fiscal allocations to Jharkhand under various governments. Shah noted that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government allocated a mere ₹84,000 crores from 2004 to 2014, whereas the Modi administration has extended ₹3.80 lakh crores in financial support from 2014 to 2024. This surge in funding, according to Shah, has facilitated substantial developmental initiatives, including the improvement of transportation networks, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions across the state.
Shah also outlined the benefits of various central government schemes that have directly impacted Jharkhand's development. He cited the introduction of nine Vande Bharat trains aimed at enhancing connectivity within the region, thereby making travel more efficient for residents. Additionally, Shah mentioned ongoing projects such as the expansion of national highways and the promotion of renewable energy investments, designed to stimulate economic growth and generate employment opportunities.
In terms of law and order, Shah provided alarming statistics regarding the rise in crime rates during the current tenure of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He reported a 29% increase in offenses against women and a 42% rise in reported rapes, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced public safety measures. Shah committed to prioritizing law enforcement by increasing police presence and implementing community policing initiatives. Furthermore, he proposed specific social welfare programs aimed at empowering women and supporting families, addressing critical issues of safety, corruption, and community development in Jharkhand.
