The Shyambazar court has officially framed charges in the high-profile rape and murder case linked to RG Kar Medical College, a critical step in the legal process. This decision comes just one day before a scheduled hearing in the Supreme Court, which has attracted significant attention due to the severity of the allegations and the impact on those involved.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been tasked with investigating the case and presented its findings during the recent court session. CBI officials clarified that while charges have been filed against a civic volunteer, the chargesheet does not state that this individual acted alone in the crime. This clarification is essential as it indicates that the investigation is still active, with multiple suspects potentially involved.
As part of their inquiry, the CBI is closely examining the roles of several individuals, particularly Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mandal, the officer-in-charge of the Tala police station. Investigators are assessing whether there was any conspiracy surrounding the incident, including the actions of these individuals before and after the crime. Reports suggest that the CBI is scrutinizing communication records to determine if there was an attempt to conceal or manipulate information related to the case.
The CBI has also confirmed that biological evidence, crucial for the investigation, has been collected from the crime scene. This evidence was instrumental in the CBI’s ability to submit the chargesheet within the mandated 60-day timeframe set by the Indian Penal Code. In addition to biological evidence, the investigation may also include forensic analyses, witness testimonies, and surveillance footage to build a comprehensive case against all involved parties.
