Drunk driver arrested after high-speed chase and altercation with police on Central Avenue
In Tarapith, a housewife has accused three colleagues of her husband of gang raping her. The alleged assault occurred on Wednesday, following a domestic dispute that took place on Lakshmi Puja, a significant festival in the Hindu calendar. Reports indicate that the couple had an argument that prompted the woman to leave her home and seek refuge with her mother in Tarapith, where she approached the three men for assistance in reconciling with her husband.
According to the woman's formal complaint, the three accused men—who were familiar to her as colleagues of her husband—offered to help mediate the conflict. Instead, they allegedly led her to an empty house in the Tarapith area, where they proceeded to gang rape her. The victim claims that the assailants recorded the assault on video and issued threats to share this footage with her in-laws, aiming to silence her from reporting the crime.
Initially, after the attack, the victim's husband reported the matter verbally to the Mallarpur police station. However, since the alleged crime occurred in Tarapith, the police advised him to file a formal complaint at the Tarapith police station. Acting on this advice, the victim lodged a written complaint on Monday night, detailing the circumstances of the incident, including the threats made by the accused.
Following the filing of the complaint, the Tarapith police conducted an investigation, which led to the swift arrest of the three accused individuals on the same night. The police have since confirmed that they are gathering evidence, including the alleged video recordings, and are interviewing witnesses to piece together the events of that day. Authorities have also indicated that they are in contact with support services to ensure that the victim receives medical assistance and counseling as needed.
