A 39-year-old man, Raunak Bhattacharya, was found dead in a bloody state near Joka ESI Hospital on Wednesday morning, sparking an investigation into the cause of his death. Raunak, a resident of Putiyari Road under Behala police station, had been reported missing since Tuesday, according to his family. Witnesses found his body lying near a four-story hospital building, with one side of his face bruised and swollen.
Residents notified Thakurpukur police station when they saw the young man’s body. Responding officers arrived at the scene and immediately transported Raunak to Vidyasagar Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding his injuries have raised questions, leading the police to probe further to determine whether this was a suicide or if other factors were involved.
Raunak’s family shared that he had been battling depression for an extended period, largely due to his struggles in securing employment. Despite being academically accomplished, he had been unable to land a job, which took a toll on his mental health.
Family members recounted how he had attended multiple job interviews but remained unsuccessful in his attempts to find work. Police are considering this background as they investigate the possibility of suicide linked to his mental health struggles.
