Deoria murder case: 2 accused arrested in police encounter, firearms and bike seized

In a major breakthrough in the investigation of a murder case, two accused were arrested by the Deoria police during a police encounter early Friday morning near Markatia village. The suspects, identified as Anurag Gupta, son of Vinod Gupta, and Ashish Pandey, son of the late Satya Pandey, both residents of Ward No. 16, Ramnath Deoria, were arrested after a tip-off from an informant. During the encounter, both men sustained gunshot injuries to their legs. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable. Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma confirmed the arrests, stating that both accused are involved in the murder of Shubham Singh.

Shubham Singh, also known as Nehal Singh, a resident of Baraon in Madanpur, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants on November 17 near the main road at Jaddoo Parsia village in the Surouli police station area. The victim’s mother filed a formal complaint, prompting the police to register a case and launch an investigation. The police then formed several teams to track down the accused. According to SP Sharma, "The arrests made today have brought us closer to solving this case, and we will ensure justice is served to the victim’s family."

During the encounter, police recovered a pistol from Ashish Pandey and a country-made firearm from Anurag Gupta. In addition to the weapons, a motorcycle was also seized from the suspects, which was believed to have been used during the crime. The police are currently conducting further investigations to determine the exact motive behind the murder, as well as the suspects’ possible connections to other criminal activities. The interrogation of the accused is ongoing, and law enforcement officials are looking into their criminal backgrounds and any potential involvement in previous offenses.
