BSF expands operations, boosts intelligence as 50+ infiltrators apprehended in 10 days
Kolkata Metro has implemented a new initiative to reduce suicide incidents by installing positive message banners at several stations. The banners, featuring messages aimed at promoting mental health awareness and preventing suicide, have been placed at stations such as Girish Park and Kalighat. These stations are part of the metro network that has faced challenges in adopting certain safety measures, specifically the installation of screen doors at all stations.
Unlike metro systems in cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, Kolkata Metro has not been able to install screen doors at every station due to space limitations and technical constraints. While screen doors have been installed at select stations, including Esplanade, the full implementation of this technology across the network is not possible. At Esplanade, a glass wall system has been installed, which opens only at the locations where the train doors align. However, this system is not in place at all stations.
To address this gap, Kolkata Metro has introduced the banner initiative, with positive messages placed strategically across platforms. These messages are intended to provide support and raise awareness among passengers who may be experiencing emotional distress. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Kolkata Metro to improve passenger safety and mental health support while continuing to explore solutions to reduce suicide attempts in the metro system.
