Man dies after falling under train while crossing tracks on bike in Shantipur

A tragic accident occurred this morning in the Gobindpur Kalibari area of Shantipur, resulting in the death of Shankar Roy, a 45-year-old cloth merchant. Roy, a resident of Vivekanandanagar in Gobindpur, was riding his motorbike when he attempted to cross the railway tracks near the local railway gate. At approximately 8 AM, as the local train traveling from Shantipur station to Krishnanagar approached, Roy was struck by the train and fell under it.

Roy had been traveling to collect thread for his business from a nearby merchant’s house. Reports indicate that he did not hear the approaching train due to the noise from the surrounding area, and he crossed the tracks through a narrow alley, directly into the path of the train. The impact of the collision caused Roy to fall under the train, and the vehicle was dragged along the tracks for several meters, severely injuring him. Parts of his body were scattered along the tracks, resulting in fatal injuries.

Emergency services were immediately alerted, and both local police and railway police arrived at the scene to manage the recovery. The train was halted for a significant period while authorities worked to retrieve the body. The accident caused a temporary disruption in train services, with some delays, but train operations resumed after the scene was cleared.

The local residents, following the incident, raised concerns regarding the safety of railway crossings in the area. There are no guard walls along the tracks in Gobindpur, and many locals have highlighted the risks of crossing through narrow alleys near the railway gates. Such accidents have occurred before in this area, and there are calls from the community for the railway authorities to install guard walls around the tracks to prevent further incidents. Local officials are reviewing the safety concerns raised by residents.
