WPL: RCB chase down highest ever total, beat GG by 6 wickets
A Royal Bengal tiger was sighted near Gurguria village in South 24 Parganas on the evening of December 18, creating widespread panic among residents. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM when two friends were riding a motorcycle along a narrow, paved road that runs through dense jungle. As they passed through the area, the tiger emerged suddenly from the jungle, causing the motorcyclists to stop and shout for help.
Local sources confirmed that the tiger had crossed the Makuri river from the Sundarbans, a known tiger habitat, and entered the human settlement. The sighting led to immediate fear, and the motorcyclists, in an attempt to alert the village, screamed loudly. In response, several villagers armed with sticks rushed out of their homes, but the tiger, startled by the loud commotion, retreated into the nearby forest without attacking anyone. No injuries were reported during the encounter.
Following the sighting, local authorities were promptly informed. The forest department, along with the police, arrived at the scene and initiated a thorough search of the area. Forest officials set up a night-long patrol, monitoring the surroundings with torches and setting off fireworks in an attempt to drive the tiger further into the jungle. Despite these efforts, the exact location of the tiger was not confirmed, leaving residents uncertain about its movements.
The local community has expressed concerns about the tiger's proximity to the village. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors after dark and remain cautious, as the tiger could still be hiding in the area. The forest department is actively working to track the animal's movements and ensure it does not pose a threat to the community. While the tiger’s whereabouts remain uncertain, the forest department has increased surveillance in the region to prevent further incidents.
At this time, no official confirmation has been made regarding whether the tiger has left the area or if it is still in the vicinity. The forest department has assured the public that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of both the villagers and the wildlife.
