Man arrested in Kolkata with MDMA pills

Acting on credible information, the Narcotic Cell of the Detective Department conducted a swift raid in front of Metro Cash and Carry under Survey Park Police Station in Kolkata on the morning of December 22. The operation led to the arrest of Prosenjit Roy, alias Arghyo, a 31-year-old resident of Kona Bagpara in Liluah, Howrah.

During the raid at approximately 4:05 AM, the police intercepted Roy and seized three MDMA pills weighing a total of 1.41 grams. The seized quantity falls under the medium category as per narcotics classifications. The pills were found in Roy's exclusive and conscious possession.

Authorities acted promptly, and the accused was taken into custody for illegal transportation of the controlled substance. Following his arrest, a case was registered at Survey Park Police Station under case number 217 dated December 22, 2024, invoking Sections 22(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The Narcotic Cell emphasized that this arrest is part of their ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and illegal substance abuse in the city. They urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics.

Roy’s arrest marks another success in the police’s heightened vigilance during the holiday season when the risk of drug-related offenses tends to increase. The seized MDMA, commonly referred to as "ecstasy," is a popular recreational drug known for its euphoric effects but has significant risks, including dependency and health complications.
