TMC calls for boycott of artists linked to RG Kar protests, Kunal Ghosh criticizes 'false drama'

Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson and state secretary Kunal Ghosh has called for the boycott of artists involved in the RG Kar movement protests. Ghosh criticized these artists for allegedly distorting facts, particularly regarding the autopsy report connected to the RG Kar incident. He accused them of staging a "drama" and misleading the public with false claims. Ghosh stated that these individuals should not be allowed to attend any events organized by the TMC, as their involvement in the protests was damaging to the party’s reputation.

After the RG Kar incident, several artists participated in the protests that followed, with some joining the doctors' movement. A few of these artists also took part in symbolic hunger strikes alongside the protesting doctors. The protests centered on demands related to the RG Kar incident, which involved allegations of negligence in medical procedures. Ghosh claimed that the participation of these artists in such movements, particularly in the symbolic hunger strikes, had hurt the sentiments of TMC workers, as the protests were seen as critical of the state government and its policies.

In his statement, Ghosh further clarified that individuals who had attacked the TMC leadership, specifically Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, or had engaged in rebellion against the party, would no longer be allowed to perform at TMC events. He mentioned that those who had previously taken part in protests and received advances for performances would be excluded from TMC platforms. The TMC’s decision highlights the ongoing tension surrounding the RG Kar incident and reflects the party’s efforts to distance itself from figures associated with the protest movements that have criticized the state government.
