Arvind Kejriwal demands EC to

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has lodged serious allegations against Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency, accusing him of violating the rules of the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. In a meeting with senior officials of the Election Commission, Kejriwal demanded that Verma be barred from contesting, claiming that he was engaging in corrupt practices such as distributing money to voters and organizing job camps. These activities, according to Kejriwal, fall under the category of "corrupt practices" as per the rules and regulations set by the EC.

Kejriwal also called for a raid on Verma's residence to determine the source of the money being allegedly distributed. He emphasized that such practices violate the principles of a free and fair election. “The BJP candidate in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Parvesh Verma, is organizing job camps, openly distributing money. These things come under corrupt practices under the rules and regulations of the Election Commission," Kejriwal stated.

In addition to these accusations, Kejriwal raised concerns over the voter rolls in the constituency. He claimed that between December 15 and January 7, a total of 5,500 applications had been submitted for the cancellation of votes in the New Delhi constituency. According to Kejriwal, these applications were found to be fraudulent. He explained that when the Election Commission investigated these cancellations, the individuals named in the applications stated that they had not filed any such requests, indicating that fake cancellation requests were being submitted to manipulate the voter list.

Kejriwal further claimed that 13,000 new voter applications had been filed during the same period. He alleged that these applications were part of a coordinated effort to add fake voters to the electoral rolls by bringing in people from outside the state. "A big scam is going on. Fake votes are being created by bringing people from other states," Kejriwal remarked. He stressed that this was a deliberate attempt to alter the electoral process in favor of the BJP.

In light of these allegations, Kejriwal accused the local District Election Officer (DEO) and Election Registration Officer (ERO) in New Delhi of facilitating the alleged irregularities. He called for both officers to be suspended for their role in enabling these activities. In response to the accusations of voter deletions and irregularities, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar rejected the allegations, stating that no deletions could take place without proper due process, which requires the submission of Form 7 for objections and claims regarding the electoral rolls.

With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5 and the vote counting set for February 8, the political atmosphere in the capital is increasingly charged. Kejriwal’s allegations underscore the intense scrutiny of the election process, with both major parties preparing for a crucial electoral contest. The Election Commission is expected to investigate these claims to ensure the integrity of the upcoming elections.
