WPL: RCB chase down highest ever total, beat GG by 6 wickets
The Kolkata Metro is preparing for a significant upgrade on its Green Line, which connects Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector 5. To ensure seamless travel along the route, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) has proposed a suspension of services on both Green Line 1 (Sealdah to Sector 5) and Green Line 2 (Howrah Maidan to Esplanade) for around 1.5 months starting February 12.
This suspension aims to integrate the signaling systems on the two separate branches of the Green Line, which currently operate with independent setups. Once the integration is complete, the metro will provide direct connectivity between Howrah Maidan and Sector 5, significantly improving commuters' travel experience.
The tunneling work for the Esplanade to Sealdah stretch has already been completed, with tracks laid in the eastbound tunnel. Empty metro rakes have been running on this section to test its readiness. The signaling upgrade marks the final stage of preparing the Green Line for uninterrupted service from Howrah Maidan to Sector 5.
Despite the planned suspension, KMRCL has assured that the integration work is necessary for the long-term efficiency of the system. The Green Line services currently cater to thousands of daily passengers, and the proposed downtime will temporarily affect commuters but is seen as a crucial step for modernization.
