80-member-team of forest officials capture Tiger from Bengal village after multiple sighting near residences

A male tiger, which had been repeatedly entering human settlements in Maipith, has been successfully captured by the South 24 Parganas forest department. The capture took place on Sunday night, following several days of tracking the tiger’s movements. The forest department set up a cage with a goat as bait in the Kishorimohanpur area, where the tiger had been sighted multiple times. The tiger, which had been entering populated areas over the past week, is now reported to be in stable health after receiving primary medical treatment.

The first signs of the tiger's presence appeared on January 6 when footprints were found in Kishorimohanpur. On January 8, the tiger was observed near Nagenabad, Maipith. Following each sighting, the forest department set up a perimeter and carefully monitored the area. Despite their efforts, the tiger continued to return to residential zones. On January 9, further footprints were discovered in Maipith’s Nagenabad region. On January 12, the tiger was again seen near Ganga ghat in Kishorimohanpur. These repeated intrusions prompted the forest department to intensify their efforts to safely capture the animal.

The operation was carried out by a dedicated team of about 80 forest officials, who surrounded an area of approximately 1 kilometer around the tiger’s suspected location. The trap was set up using a cage with live bait, and the tiger was successfully captured later that night. The tiger’s movements had been tracked via its footprints and other signs of its presence, allowing the forest department to monitor and contain the situation as it developed.

Once captured, the tiger was immediately examined by forest personnel and found to be in good health. The forest department has confirmed that after undergoing further medical checks, the tiger will be released into a deep forest area, far from human settlements. The release is expected to take place within a short time frame after its examination. The tiger’s repeated presence in residential areas, including crossing the Muri Ganga River, had caused significant concern among the local population, leading to heightened alertness from the forest department.

The South 24 Parganas forest department has outlined their standard procedure for dealing with wild animals that enter human settlements. A rapid response team is deployed in such cases to ensure both public safety and the safe relocation of the animal. In this instance, the successful capture of the tiger, combined with plans for its release into a safe environment, marks the resolution of a tense situation for the Maipith area.
