The firearm used in the Goalpokhar police attack in Uttar Dinajpur has been traced to Abdul Hossain, also known as Abal, a Bangladeshi national with a history of criminal activities. Abdul was arrested in 2019 under the Arms Act, fined ₹80,000, and subsequently deported to Bangladesh after being identified as an illegal immigrant.
Police sources have revealed that Abdul Hossain is suspected of supplying the firearm to the primary accused, Sajjak Alam, who remains absconding. Sajjak, arrested in the same 2019 case as Abdul, is now accused of attacking police personnel in the recent incident. The connection between Abdul and Sajjak is a key focus of the ongoing investigation.
Witness accounts suggest Abdul was seen near the courthouse on the day of the attack, raising questions about how he was able to re-enter India or maintain ties with Indian associates after his deportation. The weapon used in the attack has been recovered and is undergoing forensic examination to trace its origin and supply chain.
Law enforcement agencies have launched extensive search operations to apprehend Sajjak Alam. Efforts are also being made to identify other individuals involved in facilitating the smuggling of arms and aiding criminal activities across the India-Bangladesh border. This includes probing any organized networks supporting these operations.
