Dense fog severely disrupted operations at Dumdum Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport early Friday morning, affecting both arrivals and departures. The low visibility caused by the fog led to multiple flight diversions to alternative airports, with nearly all outgoing flights facing delays. The fog persisted through the morning, impacting the overall schedule and operations at the airport.
Among the most notable disruptions, two SpiceJet flights—one to Bagdogra and the other to Delhi—were canceled just minutes before boarding. Passengers reported that they had already received boarding passes for both flights, but the cancellations were announced only five minutes before their scheduled departure. Several passengers had been waiting at the airport since the previous night to catch these early morning flights, with some having connecting flights or critical appointments at their destinations.
SpiceJet issued a statement confirming that the cancellations were caused by weather-related issues. The flight to Bagdogra could not land at Dumdum Airport due to the thick fog, while the Delhi flight was canceled because the aircraft could not land at Delhi Airport due to similar fog conditions. The airline assured affected passengers that they were working to accommodate them on the next available flights and advised passengers to check for updates regarding rescheduling. The dense fog also led to minor delays in other airline operations, although the full extent of cancellations and delays was yet to be determined. Passengers were urged to monitor the situation closely and remain in contact with airlines for further information.
