Kolkata Metro app now offers real-time service updates, QR ticketing, and more for commuters

Kolkata Metro Rail has launched an updated version of its official app, ‘Metro Ride Kolkata,’ which now includes several features aimed at improving the daily commuting experience for passengers. The app now provides real-time updates on various metro services, including operational status, train schedules, ticket prices, and notifications about service disruptions. This updated version of the app is already being used by approximately five lakh passengers.

Previously, the app offered basic information on metro line operations, including start times for Blue, Green, Purple, and Orange lines, as well as departure times for the last train from terminal stations. The latest update expands the app’s functionality by adding real-time notifications on service disruptions, delays, and special services. Passengers will receive alerts about any changes to train schedules, whether services are delayed, or if any routes are suspended, such as during emergencies or technical issues.

The real-time service updates now available on the app also include information on the time gap between trains, which will help commuters plan their journeys more efficiently. If there is a service interruption, such as a breakdown or an unforeseen event, passengers will receive notifications immediately. The updated app is designed to provide passengers with the most current and relevant information before they travel, ensuring they are informed about the operational status of the metro network.

In addition to the real-time updates, the app now supports a QR code-based ticketing system. This allows passengers to purchase tickets directly from their phones, bypassing the need to stand in long queues at booking counters. The QR code system enables faster entry into the metro system, as passengers can scan their codes at entry points. The app also supports online recharging of metro cards, allowing passengers to top up their cards in advance and avoid delays.

The updated app is expected to be an essential tool for commuters as the metro network continues to expand, with additional routes being introduced. The app’s new features are designed to improve the flow of information and enhance the travel experience for both regular and occasional metro passengers, especially as the metro network serves an increasing number of daily riders.
