Drunk youths crash car in New Town, attack female cop at police station
In a successful drug bust operation late last night, the Narcotics Cell, DD, seized a large quantity of ganja from a white Mahindra Bolero pickup van on Belvedere Road, near Hastings Crossing in Kolkata. The vehicle, which was traveling eastward, was stopped based on reliable intelligence and technical support. A search of the vehicle revealed 123.802 kilograms of ganja concealed in a hidden chamber inside the van. The ganja was being transported from Angul, Odisha, to its intended destination at Mandir Bazaar in Kolkata.
The driver, Saurabh Banik, along with his two accomplices, Kamal Sardar alias Bidha, were apprehended at the scene. The arrested individuals are suspected of being involved in the illegal transportation and distribution of narcotics across the region. Authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the origin, network, and intended distribution points of the drug haul. Additional efforts are underway to identify any other individuals or groups connected to this trafficking operation.
Following the drug seizure, SI Debasis Barman from the Narcotics Cell, DD, filed a complaint leading to the registration of a case at Hastings Police Station under Sections 20 (B) (ii) (C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This seizure adds to the growing number of successful interventions by law enforcement agencies targeting the drug trade in the state. The arrested individuals are facing serious charges, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full scale of the operation and any additional suspects involved.
