Drunk youths crash car in New Town, attack female cop at police station
In a significant move, TMC Jorasanko MLA Vivek Gupta has been removed as the Chairman of the Management Committee of Chittaranjan College in North Kolkata. The decision was taken following the action by Mamata Banerjee government over complains of cut money. West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, who also heads the Trinamool Education Cell announced the dismissal of Vivek Gupta. In his statement, Basu confirmed that minister and Shyampukur MLA Dr Shashi Panja has been appointed as the new chairman.
The controversy surrounding Gupta’s removal stemmed from allegations by members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) student union. They accused him of interfering in college affairs and 30% commission in student union funds for various events by Vivek's PA and close confidante Payal Nag. This financial dispute reportedly put Saraswati Puja celebrations at risk, as funds were withheld, leading to uncertainty over the event’s organization.
The students also alleged that even funds for repair of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das statue just outside college was not being released. Vivek's PA Payal demanded commission of every fund being released. Vivek gupta has not issued any statement after his dismissal and on the cut money allegations. He shied away from Taaza TV camera on Sunday at a function.
