5,000 Pakistani soldiers resign amid fear of Indian retaliation
Trinamool worker Santosh Yadav in Gauripur, Naihati, the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate witnessed a significant shake-up. Within 24 hours of the incident, Barrackpore Police Commissioner Alok Rajoria was removed from his post and replaced by Ajay Kumar Thakur, the former DIG of the Jail Department. Thakur's immediate crackdown led to the arrest of five suspects, including the key accused, Akshay Gan.
Santosh Yadav was attacked last Friday afternoon while riding a cart in the Gauripur area. According to initial reports, he was brutally beaten before being shot. However, discrepancies soon arose. While the local MLA confirmed a firing incident, then-Police Commissioner Alok Rajoria claimed there was no gunfire, asserting Yadav was crushed to death. This conflicting information raised suspicions and fueled tensions within the community.
In light of these developments, Alok Rajoria was swiftly transferred to the Traffic Department as DIG, and Ajay Kumar Thakur was appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Barrackpore. Thakur wasted no time in addressing the case, leading to the prompt arrest of Akshay Gan and four others within hours of taking charge. Police believe that interrogations will reveal critical details surrounding the murder.
Ajay Kumar Thakur stated, "We are pursuing every lead and will ensure justice is served. This swift action reflects our commitment to maintaining law and order." The arrests have stirred political debates, with the Leader of Opposition, Shubhendu Adhikari, claiming that the ruling Trinamool Congress is attempting to implicate the BJP in the murder. Adhikari insisted that internal factionalism within the Trinamool is the actual cause of Yadav's death.
The murder has escalated tensions in the region, highlighting the volatile nature of local politics and law enforcement's role in maintaining order. As investigations continue, the political blame game between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP is expected to intensify.
