Drunk youths crash car in New Town, attack female cop at police station
On January 31, Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker Santosh Yadav was murdered in Bharadapur, Naihati. Following the incident, TMC leaders, including Barrackpore MP Partha Bhowmick and Naihati MLA Sanad De, accused BJP leader and Barrackpore’s former MP Arjun Singh of inciting the attack. TMC workers put up posters across Naihati, alleging Singh’s involvement and demanding action. The murder has led to heightened political tensions between TMC and BJP in the region.
On February 4, a poster was put up in front of the Bhatpara Municipality gate, stating, "Arjun Singh, answer for the murder of Trinamool worker Santosh Yadav. Please respond." The poster drew significant public attention, with several people stopping to read it. Bhatpara, which has been a BJP stronghold and Singh’s home turf, has now been drawn into the controversy. Singh has not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations. BJP leaders have also not responded publicly.
The incident has further intensified political activities in Bengal’s industrial belt, particularly in Naihati and Bhatpara, areas known for frequent political clashes. Security arrangements have been reviewed in both locations, with law enforcement monitoring the situation. TMC continues its public demonstrations, while BJP’s response remains awaited.
