Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir defies party, refuses to apologize in show-cause reply
Local residents of Dum Dum Cantt Station in North 24 Parganas district staged a blockade on the railway tracks, demanding the construction of an underpass at a level crossing. The protest led to the suspension of train services on the Baranagar branch, affecting both up and down routes for nearly an hour, resulting in widespread delays. Several trains were halted at various stations due to the blockade, causing disruption to the regular service.
The residents have been calling for the construction of an underpass at the level crossing for a long time, citing safety concerns and traffic congestion. Despite repeated requests, their demands had not been addressed, prompting them to take direct action. As a result of the protest, 12 trains were delayed, although no trains were canceled. Passengers traveling on these trains experienced significant delays as a result.
Railway officials arrived at the site and negotiated with the protestors. After assuring them that an underpass would be constructed to address the safety and traffic issues, the blockade was lifted at 11:50 AM. The disruption ended at that point, and train services resumed, though the delays continued to affect the service schedule for the rest of the morning.
