Kolkata weather update: Rising temperatures, dense fog and cooldown expected in fluctuating weather

Kolkata and various parts of West Bengal are currently experiencing fluctuating temperatures, with warm days and cool nights. The weather department has forecasted that the temperature in Kolkata will rise in the next two days, offering a brief period of warmth. However, after four days, a significant drop in temperature is expected as the region continues its transition from winter to spring. This fluctuation is common during this time of year, as the weather settles into its final phase before the onset of summer.

In addition to temperature changes, dense fog is expected to impact the region, particularly in the early hours of the morning. The weather department warned that visibility could be reduced to as low as 50 meters due to thick fog. The fog will likely cause disruptions in daily commuting and travel in several districts, including North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Bankura, Birbhum, and Murshidabad. Yellow alerts have been issued for these areas to caution residents and travelers.

While Kolkata experiences a rise in temperature, South Bengal will see relatively stable conditions over the next five days, with minimal fluctuation in daytime temperatures. From Tuesday to Thursday, the temperature is expected to rise by 2 to 4°C. However, this increase in temperature will be accompanied by a heightened presence of fog, particularly in the mornings. The weather department confirmed that the fog could persist throughout the week, especially in areas closer to rivers and low-lying regions.

Meanwhile, higher-altitude regions like Darjeeling and Kalimpong are expected to receive rain, with the possibility of snowfall in the coming 24 hours. The weather department indicated that these areas could experience cold weather and snowfall due to their elevated positions. The maximum temperature in Kolkata today is forecasted to be around 27°C, with a minimum of 15°C. The sky is expected to remain mostly clear, but the warm conditions will continue to increase in the coming days, with a rise in the minimum temperature of 2 to 3°C across South Bengal.
