Fire breaks out in Naihati local at Sealdah station

A fire broke out on the Naihati local train at Sealdah station early Tuesday morning, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred at 4:08 AM on platform 5 when sparks were seen as the pantograph of the first compartment came in contact with the overhead electric wires. Railway staff immediately responded, and power supply to the train was cut off to prevent further escalation. There were no passengers inside the affected compartment at the time of the fire.

Following the incident, the train was moved to the car shed for inspection, and railway officials initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. To ensure minimal disruption, an alternative EMU rake was arranged, and the first Naihati local of the day resumed operations at 4:19 AM. Daily commuters, who were waiting for their train, boarded the replacement rake as services continued without major delays.

Eastern Railway has confirmed that no injuries were reported, and technical teams are examining possible faults in the overhead electrical system. Officials are assessing safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Although no official statement has been released regarding the exact cause, railway authorities have assured passengers that all necessary precautions are being taken.
