The Special POCSO Court at Bichar Bhawan is set to deliver its verdict tomorrow in the case of a 7-month-old baby, a footpath dweller in the Burtolla PS area, who was found injured on November 30. Around 1:45 AM that day, local residents informed the police about a baby crying on the footpath. Officers arrived and found the infant outside a premises, and shortly after, two footpath dwellers reported their 7-month-old daughter missing. The parents identified the baby as their child. She was immediately taken to RG Kar Hospital, where doctors confirmed multiple injuries, including in her genital area. A case was registered at Burtolla PS under Case No. 191/2024, invoking Sections 137(2)/65(2)BNS and Section 6 of the POCSO Act based on a complaint by the mother.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to handle the case. Investigators collected biological and digital evidence and tracked the accused to Gopiballavpur, Jhargram, leading to his arrest. Within 26 days, police submitted the charge sheet, listing all evidence gathered during the investigation. The trial proceeded under strict monitoring to ensure no delays. The prosecution presented forensic reports, medical findings, and digital evidence as part of its case. Witness testimonies were recorded, and court proceedings were conducted on a priority basis.
The case has now reached its final stage, with the judgment scheduled for February 17. The trial, completed in 2.5 months, was among the swiftest in similar cases. Security arrangements have been put in place at Bichar Bhawan ahead of the verdict. Authorities have maintained confidentiality regarding the victim’s identity as per legal provisions. The accused remains in judicial custody, awaiting the court's final ruling.
