Social activist civilian shot dead by suspected terrorists amid high alert in Kashmir
On Thursday, at a major meeting of the Trinamool Congress held at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Trinamool Congress's All India General Secretary and Member of Parliament, Abhishek Banerjee, not only resolved to defeat the BJP but also set a target for the 2026 assembly elections. He also fiercely attacked the CBI. The Diamond Harbour MP said from the grand stage, "According to reports, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against me." They have mentioned my name only twice. But they have not provided any identification—who Abhishek is, where he lives, nothing is written. During the party event in Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium on Thursday, Abhishek said that the CBI has filed a 28-page charge sheet in which his name appears in two places.
"But it does not mention who this Abhishek Banerjee is. Is he an MLA or an MP? Where does he live? Whose son is he? None of this is written. The way the BJP operates, the CBI has also started following the same approach." He further stated that BJP leaders do not have the courage to take his name directly when they attack him. "They call me 'Bhaipo' (nephew). Now, the CBI is doing the same. If they have the courage, they should write my full name and identity. The CBI is making statements. BJP leaders give statements. I like their fear. I do not change my stance. I have said before that if anyone proves corruption against me, I will hang myself. I say the same even today."
On the other hand, he accused the central government of not releasing funds for the 100-day work scheme and the housing scheme. However, he emphasized that the state government has fulfilled its promise and provided the funds. The All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress claimed that the state government has spent a significant amount on projects such as Lakshmi Bhandar and Pathashree. He stated, "You will not see this news on TV." Because a section of the media is busy tarnishing Bengal’s image.
Reports are circulating that I will join the BJP. "All these reports are false. Even if they cut my throat, my severed throat will still say ‘Mamata Banerjee Zindabad’." Abhishek also issued a warning to party leaders and workers while targeting BJP leaders. In his words, "In 2020, I had said that there has never been any mistake or corruption in my direct or indirect assistance. If anyone proves that I have taken even ten paise, there will be no need for a charge sheet. You won’t have to summon me—I will hang myself and die."
"I still stand by these words today. If you have evidence, then please present it. During the Nav Jowar campaign, the CBI was summoned. What happened? I am made of a different metal. The more you attack and hurt me, the stronger I will become. Abhishek Banerjee is not someone who will bow before you and become your slave. I will go to the people and bow before them." The Diamond Harbour MP also declared from the stage, "The BJP has conspired multiple times in the past. From Sandeshkhali to the RG Kar Hospital incident, they wanted to tarnish Bengal’s image. Now, they have started another conspiracy. But the people of Bengal have answered them before, and they will answer them again this time. They have learned nothing. Remember, the BJP will lose more seats than before."
"A few days ago, our Chief Minister said in the Assembly that the Trinamool Congress will return to power in the 2026 elections with a two-thirds majority." That means winning 195-200 seats. "But I say we must go beyond that and win more than 215 seats. We need to start working toward this goal from now." Abhishek also warned party leaders and workers while attacking BJP leaders. In his words, "I have repeatedly thrown them into the dustbin." This time, I will have to do it again. "Any city president, MLA, or MP who speaks against the party is actually insulting the party itself. They are being identified. For instance, I identified Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari. I have taken up the responsibility of identifying traitors within the party. No one will be spared. Those who speak against the party and try to show their strength have made it easy for us to recognize them."
