5,000 Pakistani soldiers resign amid fear of Indian retaliation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to file a supplementary chargesheet this month in the special court in Kolkata regarding the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. According to sources, this chargesheet will reveal the larger motive behind the crime. Additionally, it will include details of evidence tampering and irregularities committed by Kolkata Police during the initial investigation.
Sources suggest that to establish the larger motive behind the crime, CBI officials are heavily relying on the statements of the police personnel who were on duty that night. These officers were posted at Tala Police Station and the RG Kar Medical College police outpost at the time of the incident in August 2024. The instructions these officers received from their superiors on the morning of August 9, when the female doctor’s body was discovered in the seminar hall, are considered crucial.
CBI has summoned 11 police personnel who were stationed at Tala Police Station and RG Kar outpost for questioning this week. According to sources, their statements will play a key role in explaining the larger motive in the supplementary chargesheet. Investigators will also question these officers about whether they noticed any suspicious activity on the night of the incident or after the body was found.
Additionally, they are probing whether any outsider was seen engaging in suspicious movements within the police station or hospital premises. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for March 17 in the Supreme Court. Before that, the CBI is working towards filing the supplementary chargesheet in the special court. Meanwhile, last week, the victim’s parents traveled to Delhi, where they met CBI Director Praveen Sood to discuss the progress of the investigation.
Speaking to the media, they said that the CBI Director assured them of justice and advised them to remain patient. It is noteworthy that earlier, the CBI had arrested former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and former officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mandal, on charges of evidence tampering. However, both were granted default bail due to the delay in filing the supplementary chargesheet.
