Passengers traveling on the Green Line of Kolkata Metro will once again face inconvenience. The Metro Rail Authority has announced that due to essential repairs and technical work, the metro service on the Green Line will be completely shut down on the upcoming weekend, i.e., 8th March (Saturday) and 9th March (Sunday). During this time, no metro trains will operate between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector Five. According to the Metro administration, the work on the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system will be carried out during these two days. As a result, no metro will run on the East-West Metro Corridor.
According to the Metro, the impact will begin on 7th March (Friday) evening. The last metro from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector Five will depart at 7:03 PM on Friday, whereas normally it runs until 9:35 PM. The last metro from Salt Lake Sector Five to Sealdah will depart at 7:05 PM, whereas it usually operates until 9:40 PM. Additionally, the last metro on the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan route will also depart at 7 PM on Friday instead of the usual 9:45 PM. The first metro service on Monday morning will also begin later than usual. On 10th March (Monday), the first metro from Salt Lake Sector Five to Sealdah will depart at 8:05 AM, whereas it usually operates at 7:05 AM.
Similarly, the first metro from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector Five will depart at 8:15 AM, whereas the regular time is 6:55 AM. Likewise, the first metro from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan will depart at 8 AM instead of the usual 7 AM. Metro officials clarified that services on the Blue Line will remain completely normal during this time. It is worth mentioning that the Green Line services had been disrupted twice earlier for maintenance work – from 13th February to 16th February and from 20th February to 23rd February.
