5,000 Pakistani soldiers resign amid fear of Indian retaliation
The investigation into the mysterious RG Kar rape and murder case has regained momentum after returning to the Calcutta High Court. On Wednesday, Abhaya's parents received her official death certificate after seven months, marking a crucial development in the case. In a fresh move, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned seven nurses who were on duty at the time of the incident. They have been asked to appear at the CGO Complex for questioning.
Abhaya's parents had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI's investigation and appealed to the Calcutta High Court for a more thorough probe. However, the High Court initially refused to hear the case as it was still under the Supreme Court's jurisdiction. Undeterred, her parents approached the Supreme Court, which accepted their plea. As soon as the case returned to the High Court, investigative actions gained momentum.
On Monday, the case was officially reintroduced, and by Wednesday evening, the State Health Secretary personally visited Abhaya's parents to hand over the long-awaited death certificate. The following day, the CBI summoned the nurses who were on duty during the incident, addressing a key concern raised by the victim’s family.
Abhaya’s parents have consistently questioned the scope of the investigation, pointing out that several individuals present on the day of the incident had not been interrogated. They particularly criticized the lack of scrutiny on hospital staff, including the nurses. Responding to these concerns, CBI Investigating Officer Seema Pahuja has now ordered all relevant nurses to appear for questioning starting today.
