A mob in Bihar on Monday lynched a person and critically injured another in Kishanpur village of Gaya district after thieves allegedly entered the house of a 70-year-old man late at night. After the old lady raised the alarm, they were chased and caught by the villagers, police said.
The villagers tied the pair to an electric pole and beat them mercilessly to the extent that they both lost consciousness. Atri police rescued them on the spot and shifted them to Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya, where one of them succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday during treatment.
The deceased was identified as Harekrishna Singh (45) of Shahjipur village, while his critically injured accomplice was Nawada resident Navlesh Kumar (50). Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharti said the families of the victims have been informed and a post-mortem has been conducted. A case of murder was registered against five named and 10 unidentified persons based on the statement of the wife of the deceased, Rita Devi. Those identified have been arrested, the SSP added.
