A Pakistan-based journalist has claimed that the aid Islamabad dispatched to Turkey was in fact sent by Ankara to Pakistan during the devastating floods last year. Recently, Pakistan sent C-130 planes with relief supplies and search and rescue personnel to quake-hit areas of Turkey.
Now Pakistan-based journalist Shahid Masood has claimed that Turkey received the same aid it had sent to Islamabad during the floods. He said Pakistan repackaged the same relief goods and sent them back to Turkey in the name of quake aid.
This comes off as a major embarrassment for Pakistan as its Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been personally monitoring the relief and rescue operations in quake-hit regions of Turkey.
Over 45,000 people have been killed in the massive quake that hit Turkey and Syria 11 days ago. But the toll is expected to shoot up given some 2,64,000 apartments were lost in the quake and many people are still unaccounted for.
