India abstained from voting on a resolution put forward by Ukraine and its supporters in the United Nations General Assembly. The resolution, titled ‘Principles of the Charter of the United Nations underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine,' was adopted by a vote of 141 in favor and 7 against, with 32 abstentions.
The resolution emphasized the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine in line with the principles of the UN Charter. It called upon member states and international organizations to support diplomatic efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, consistent with the Charter.
The resolution reaffirmed the commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, extending to its territorial waters.
The resolution demanded that Russia immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and called for a cessation of hostilities. India was among the 32 countries that abstained from the vote.
