Technology will lead India achieve target of becoming developed nation by 2047: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said technology will help India achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 as he outlined the massive and modern digital infrastructure being created to ensure that the benefits of the digital revolution reach all citizens.

"The government wants to reduce compliance costs for small businesses and has asked the industry to come up with a list of compliances that can be reduced," PM Modi said in a post-Budget webinar on 'Unleashing the Potential: Ease of Using Technology'.

“We want to reduce compliance costs for small businesses. Can you (industry) formulate a list of unnecessary requirements that can be cut? We have completed 40,000 fulfillments,” said the Prime Minister. "India is building a modern digital infrastructure and ensuring that the benefits of the digital revolution reach everyone," he added.

"We have used technology to make the tax system anonymous and to address the challenges faced by taxpayers," the Prime Minister said, adding that technology is being used to make a qualitative difference in the lives of Indian citizens. He said that technologies such as 5G and AI (artificial intelligence) are now in talks and are poised to transform fields such as medicine, education, agriculture and many other sectors.

The Prime Minister invited stakeholders to identify 10 problem areas faced by the common man that can be solved with AI. Technology formed the basis of One Nation One Ration, he said, adding that the JAM trinity (Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhaar and Mobile number) helped in providing benefits to the poor.

The Prime Minister further said that the 21st century is driven by technology and cannot be limited to digital internet technology alone.
