A senior doctor from Nalanda Medical College & Hospital in Patna went missing after he went to Muzaffarpur on Wednesday night to inspect the college there. His family members filed a case of kidnapping at the Patrakar Nagar police station in Patna on Thursday.

Dr Sanjay Kumar, Investigating Controller-cum-Head, Department of Pharmacology at NMCH-Patna, went missing after he left Patna for Muzaffarpur at around 7 pm on Wednesday after parking his car in the hospital premises.

Dr. Sanjay told his wife that he was going to Muzaffarpur college for an inspection in another car. His wife Saloni Kumari said she last spoke to her husband at 7.42pm when he informed her that his vehicle was stuck in a traffic jam. After several hours, she contacted him again, but he did not answer the calls.

Saloni, who is a professor in the College of Commerce, Arts and Science, said in the FIR that she contacted her elder sister and IAS officer (UP cadre) Dimple Verma and brother-in-law Prashant Kumar, ADG (Law and Order, UP). With the help of the Patna and Muzaffarpur police, his mobile phone location was tracked at Gandhi Set, but he was nowhere to be found.

Patrakar Nagar SHO Manoranjan Bharti said, “The mobile phone number provided by the doctor's wife was picked up during surveillance, after which the police recovered his car from pillar number 46 of Gandhi Setu. The car doors were locked and both his mobile phones were in the vehicle itself. Police are scanning CCTV footage to track Dr Sanjay and are also checking his mobile phones,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) also started pressurizing the police to rescue Dr. Sanjay immediately. Former IMA president Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh expressed grief and anger over the non-recovery of the missing doctor.
