ED raids TMC youth leader's premises over teacher recruitment scam

• The ED on Saturday raided several locations of TMC youth leader Shantanu Banerjee, who was recently arrested in the state teachers scam
• ED officials had frozen 20 bank accounts linked to Shantanu and his wife
• Important documents that were found during the raids on his hideouts are being looked into

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday raided several locations of Trinamool youth leader Shantanu Banerjee, who was recently arrested in the state teachers appointment corruption case. However, after the arrest of Shantanu, the party expelled him.

On Saturday morning, ED officials entered a house near Hooghly's Bandel Church and a resort located in the Chadarar area of ​​Balagarh by breaking the lock. 

Along with this, a search operation is also going on in a two-storey house located near Bally More of Bandel but the building was locked. An attempt was made to break it but till then it was found that there is a door from behind from where one can go inside. After this, the ED officials have gone inside. Apart from this, a team of ED officials has reached Shantanu's flat in the Gurudas Pada area of ​​Chinsurah.

ED sources have said that about three years ago, a house was bought in the name of Shantanu's wife Priyanka near Bandel's Bally More for Rs 30 lakh. It is alleged that these rupees were recovered in lieu of corruptly appointed teachers. Since Shantanu's arrest, several houses, dhabas, restaurants, homestays, bungalows with gardens, and flats have come to be known in the name of him and his wife.

It is noteworthy that on Friday itself ED officials had frozen 20 bank accounts linked to Shantanu and his wife.  More than one crore transactions have taken place through these accounts. The investigation is on that from where the money came and where it was sent.

Sources said that during the raids on his hideouts, some important documents have been recovered, which are being investigated.
