Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently raised eyebrows after he said that depression is an "urban concept" and said that people in cities celebrate their emotions. The actor, who hails from a small town in UP, further stated that people living in villages do not suffer from depression and that the "disease" exists only for those who have more money.

Nawazuddin is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Jogira Sara Ra Ra' and the actor is busy with promotions and interviews for the film.

On the personal front, he has been going through quite a turmoil lately due to his legal battle with his estranged wife Aaliya Siddiqui.

During a candid chat with Mashable India, Nawazuddin claimed that he learned about issues like anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder only after he came to the city. The actor hails from a humble background and hails from a small town called Budhana in UP's Muzaffarpur district.

He stated that people in villages don't even know what depression is and that if he told his father that he was "feeling depressed" he would have given the actor a "firm slap".

"There is no depression in the villages. No one gets depressed there, everyone is happy. But after coming to the city, I learned about anxiety, depression and bipolar disorders. These things only happen in the cities. People here celebrate even the smallest of their emotions " he said.

Nawazuddin called depression a "disease" and said only people who have a lot of money enter into the contract. “You ask a laborer or a person sleeping on the trail what depression is. When it rains, they still dance. They don't know what depression is," he explained.

"Jab aapke paas paise aa jaate hai toh iss tareeke ki beemariya aati jaati hai," he added
