IMD issues heat wave and Loo alert in Jharkhand today

The IMD Ranchi Meteorological Center today issued a heat wave warning in Jharkhand with the possibility of Loo at several places.

Meteorologists said adverse weather conditions prevailed in Jharkhand, with the daily reading reaching as high as 44 degrees Celsius in Kolhan and a few other isolated outposts in the state.

Today's discomfort index was also found to be very high, with several places including Jamshedpur, Deoghar, Daltonganj, and Garhwa being 10 points above normal.

No significant synoptic system prevails over the state of Jharkhand.

Dry weather prevailed over Jharkhand during the last 24 hours. The highest maximum temperature of 44°C was recorded in Jamshedpur while Daltonganj recorded 43°C.

A climate analyst from IMD's Kolkata center said heat waves will prevail over the northwest and southeast parts of the state.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong surface winds (speed: 30-40 km/h) are likely to occur in isolated places over the eastern parts of the state today.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an advisory for people to stay away from their homes in the afternoon to avoid heatstroke.
